1. Lars Toilet: Turning the Ordinary Into the Unbelievable
The Lars Ulrich Toilet is sure to flush all of your expectations!
This exhibit, designed after legendary Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, goes to show that even the most everyday items can become extraordinary.
Artist Prince Midnight even made sure the toilet is fully functional. Now that's heavy metal!
2. Fantasy Coffins: When Final Resting Places Get Creative
The Fantasy Coffins exhibit showcases one of the most artistic and culturally rich traditions on display at Ripley’s Copenhagen.
These handcrafted coffins are shaped like everything from cars to lions, reflecting personal passions, professions, and dreams.
More than just striking, these coffins tell stories through their tradition of celebrating life in a uniquely visual way. It’s equal parts surprising and thought-provoking, and one of the museum’s most memorable stops.
3. The Disappointing Mermaid
Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid is more than just a city symbol; she’s also officially ranked as the second most disappointing tourist attraction in the world!
Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale The Little Mermaid , the iconic statue was donated to the city in 1915 by brewer Carl Jacobsen of Carlsberg.
While the sculpture is publicly displayed, using her image is surprisingly restricted. The sculptor’s heirs have vigorously protected the statue’s copyright, earning royalties whenever her likeness appears in newspapers, magazines, films, or even souvenir figurines.
The mermaid’s history hasn’t been smooth sailing, either. Over the years, she has been vandalized multiple times, her head has been cut off more than once, an arm has been removed, and she has repeatedly been painted over or dressed in imaginative costumes.
At Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Copenhagen, the Disappointing Mermaid exhibit explores the strange truth behind this world-famous statue and why something so iconic continues to leave visitors feeling, well... underwhelmed.
4. Bike City: Pedaling Through a Nation’s Identity
Denmark is one of the most bike-friendly countries in the world, and the Bike City exhibit celebrates the two-wheeled culture that defines Copenhagen.
Packed with surprising facts and immersive displays, this exhibit highlights how bicycles have shaped daily life, urban planning, and sustainability across the country.
5. Miniature Dinner Table: A Full Meal Smaller Than a Coin
Some of the most unbelievable exhibits at Ripley’s Copenhagen require a closer look... especially the Miniature Dinner Table.
Created by William Burton of British Columbia, Canada, this astonishing piece was carved when Burton was 90 years old. He created a complete table setting for two on a table measuring just 1 5/16 inches in diameter.
And this isn’t a minimal meal. The tiny setting includes plates, cutlery, steak, potatoes, cabbage, chocolate pie, plum pudding, and even a layer cake. Each and every detail is carved with incredible precision.
